Here are my top 50 Films of 2013:

*like I always warn, Im not picky when it comes to release dates. Some movies may have gotten a limited release last year or a foreign release. I go by when I personally had access to a movie. So if it was released in NY/LA in December 2012, but then released here in Illinois in January, its a 2013 movie for me.

VHS 2

The first VHS left me very disappointed. I only like one or maybe 2 of the stories. I was much more excited for this one thanks to the excellent directors behind it. It was better than I even expected. 10 times better than the first one and such a fun ride.

4.

NEW WORLD

This was an excellent surprise. Blind bought the bluray from Best Buy before hearing anything about it. It was fantastic. LOVE the ending. Its streaming on Netflix so I recommend it.

3.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG

Im a huge fan of the Rings trilogy and while I thought the first Hobbit was fun, it didnt reach the same heights for me. This one was a huge step above the first one and is just fantastic and entertaning throughout its entire runtime. Loved it.

2.

WEST OF MEMPHIS

While Ill always love the Paradise Lost films that started my fascination with this case, this was a great doc in itself. I feel this plays as a great summary of the entire case with all the new evidence displayed and of course ending with their freedom.

1.

MANIAC

If anyone knows me then this will be no surprise. This movie was just flawless to me and another example of an amazing remake. They made it into their own with the great idea to have it be from the Frank's perspective. The real star of this movie though? The incredible music. I listened to the soundtrack to this more than any other album this year...and continue to listen to it. A great movie and my favorite of 2013.
